Celebrating 100 Years

September 11, 2013 marks the centennial of the birth of legendary football coach Paul W. “Bear” Bryant. Bryant was born in rural Arkansas in 1913 and helped work the family farm. He played on an Arkansas high school championship team and earned a scholarship to join the Crimson Tide. After positions at Maryland, Kentucky and Texas A&M he became the head coach at Alabama were the stayed for 25 seasons. Bryant retired in 1982 with a career record of 323-85-17.

Mama Called is a new documentary produced by the museum in association with the UA Center for Public Television and Radio to be part of the centennial. Gene Stallings, Bobby Bowden, Nick Saban, Bill Battle, Ken Stabler, Bob Baumhower and many more were interviewed to give a glimpse into the coach and the man.
